Jamie Day has insisted that he does not have a guaranteed starting place - despite being the boss!

Welling's player/manager (pictured) has left himself on the bench for the last two games after returning from a two-match suspension, as he had no intention of changing a winning team.

"It's been nice to have a break as well," said Day. "But when the team is winning, regardless of who it is, it's difficult to change it.

"It doesn't give me a divine right to play just because I'm the manager.

"If we keep winning then we keep the same team. I think Lee Clarke has been excellent and Jack Parkinson has done well in central midfield.

"We will have to change it soon to keep people fresh but when you are winning, people keep running and go through brick walls for you."

Day also backed striker Andy Pugh to hit the goal trail again after he claimed his first goal in nine games against Bromley on Wednesday.

"Andy's work-rate, effort and hold-up play while he hasn't scored has been good and that's always a bonus," said Day.

"Strikers want to score goals and I was pleased for him to score as it was a good strike.

"It was just a shame that the keeper pulled off a good save from the one before that.

"Hopefully he will kick on now and go on a run of scoring again."

Joe Healy is expected to return to the Welling squad for the trip to Bishop's Stortford in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.

"He has been a key player for us so it will be nice to have him back," said Day.
